Apple iPhone 17 Pro cost and availability
The iPhone 17 Pro was announced on 9th September 2025. Pre-orders start on 12th September, with shipping starting on 19th September.
The 256GB model costs £1,099, the 512GB is £1,299 and the 1TB £1,499.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro camera
The iPhone 17 Pro has three rear 48MP cameras: a 48MP Fusion Main, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto. These should combine to produce some stunning photographs, if previous iPhone Pro models are anything to go by.
It has a greater optical zoom than its predecessor (up to 8x) and new image stabilisation technologies. Which should make for closer-up zoom photos and more stable videos and snaps.
The new telephoto camera’s sensor is 56 per cent larger than the previous generation, meaning sharper images in bright light and more detailed low-light shots. A new Bright style brightens skin tones and makes for more brilliant colours.
There’s also a new Centre Stage front-facing camera that lets you shoot in portrait or landscape without adjusting the angle of your phone. For group selfies, it uses AI to expand the field of view and include everyone in the shot, and you can simultaneously shoot using the front and rear camera at the same time – so you can show someone something on a video call without having to turn your phone around.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro AI features
The iPhone 17 Pro has Apple Intelligence on board. This features in almost every feature of the phone, from composing text messages, correspondence and emails, to photo editing and note taking.
It also gains some new AI features courtesy of iOS 26, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. These include the ability to ‘hold’ your place in a phone queue for customer services and then alerts you when it’s your turn to speak. And it can screen your calls, asking anyone calling from an unknown number why they are calling and using AI to decide whether to let them through or not.
Apple iPhone 17 vs iPhone 17 Pro: What’s the difference?
The iPhone 17 Pro has a more advanced camera than the standard iPhone 17, and longer battery life.
The standard 17 lacks the telephoto camera, and so can’t zoom in as close as the 17 Pro. It can’t record videos in as high a frame rate as the Pro, and the microphone is of a lower quality for recording audio during videos. The iPhone 17 Pro also lasts an hour longer for video playback (31 hours versus 30).
The 17 Pro has a more advanced processor too, and it comes in a 1TB option (the iPhone 17 maxes out at 512GB). The two phones come in different colour options, and the Pro has a Ceramic Shield back and aluminium unibody (rather than just an aluminium frame) for better protection.
How good is the iPhone 17 Pro design and display?
A new camera bump on the back and new colour schemes (notably the Cosmic Orange) make the iPhone 17 Pro stand out.
The 6.3-inch screen is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, with a new coating for 3x better scratch resistance and improved anti-refection to reduce glare and make it easier to see in bright sun. That’s also helped by the 3,000 nits peak brightness – the highest ever on an iPhone. Ceramic Shield features on the back of the device too, making it four times more hardwearing than the previous model.
