Best AI Phones 2025 – Top Smartphones with Artificial Intelligence Features
What is an AI smartphone?
Although Artificial Intelligence has been around for over 60 years, it has recently become a real buzzword—especially with the launch of platforms such as ChatGPT. But what is an AI smartphone?
Put simply, an AI smartphone is a phone that uses artificial intelligence in some of its features. This can incorporate machine learning and large language models, with AI onboard, outsourced to the cloud, or a mix of both. It’s a broad definition, but it needs to be – with AI infiltrating almost every aspect of our digital lives, from writing emails to putting together presentations and taking photos. It won’t be long before every half-decent phone uses AI in some form. We’ll soon wonder how we ever did without it.
How we test AI features
Because AI is so woven into the fabric of every mid- to high-end phone nowadays, we don’t test AI separately from the device’s main features. Rather, we know what AI features to look out for with each specific best AI phone, and make sure we try those as part of our testing. These could be headline-grabbing features like Google’s Magic Eraser (which lets you edit out unwanted people or objects from your photos at the tap of a finger), or something more pedestrian like AI-generated predictive text when writing a message.
As ever with reviewing phones, we make sure we test every feature thoroughly, especially if it’s new. And with any new features almost guaranteed to use some degree of AI, you can rest assured that we’re putting every new AI feature through its paces.

AI pros and cons
Pros
Now Bar gives you AI without opening the phone
Google Gemini is intuitive to use
Folding design makes it easy to use hands-free AI camera features
Cons
Now Brief is only moderately useful
Samsung software hampers the AI
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is one of the smallest ways of getting fully-fledged AI in your pocket. That’s thanks to its form factor – fold it open, and you’ve got a large 6.9-inch display, but snap it shut, and it’s small enough to fit in a clutch bag or small pocket. Yet it’s bursting with artificial intelligence, making it one of the best AI smartphones around.
Samsung’s Now Bar brings AI to the external screen, so you can access features like the Now Brief directly from the lock screen without opening the phone. It also lets you control lots of other features too, like the Samsung Health app, timers and more – just select which you would like to feature in Now Bar from the phone settings.
You get a dedicated button for accessing Google’s Gemini AI – one press, and you can start talking to Gemini. And thanks to the phone’s folding design, you can easily place it on a surface and use its AI camera features hands-free. Hold up two outfits and Gemini will be able to tell you which is better suited to today’s weather conditions, for example.
It’s a shame that Samsung’s Now Brief isn’t more useful. It’s meant to show your schedule for the day, but because of limited screen space, it usually only displays the first few items in your calendar. But hopefully this will be refined with future software updates.
If you want AI in a compact form, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is for you.

Magic Cue doesn’t fully deliver… yet
Lacks some basic AI features of the Pixel 10 Pro
Google might have streaked ahead of Apple in the AI arms race, but its Pixel phones still aren’t quite as good as iPhones. But the Pixel 10 is the closest Google has come to dethroning Apple, and it’s largely thanks to its truly stacked AI feature set.
Google’s Gemini AI is baked into nearly every software element of the phone. And thanks to Google’s software supremacy, it can do things that no other company can. Like Magic Cue, which aims to provide key information from your Google apps just when you need it. On the phone to a friend you’re having dinner with later? Magic Cue will bring up your restaurant reservation from your Google Calendar. Or maybe a friend sends you a message asking what time your flight lands tonight – Magic Cue will dig out the information from your itinerary and suggest the correct answer, say 7pm. Just tap the ‘7pm’ which has magically appeared above your keyboard, and you’ve answered their question without having to switch apps and find the info yourself.
It’s genuinely amazing… and crucially it doesn’t get in the way like some AI features. It doesn’t work all the time, and it can only bring up relatively recent information, so if you booked a holiday months in advance, it might struggle. But it’s helpful without being intrusive, just how the best AI phones should be.
The Pixel 10 does lack some AI features of the Pixel 10 Pro though, like the ability to automatically transcribe phone calls (which could be very handy). But given its relatively affordable price, it still gives you an awful lot of AI bang for your buck.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 specifications

- RAM: 12GB/16GB
- Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB
- Cameras: 200MP wide angle, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto, 10MP cover screen, 10MP under main display
- Battery: 4,400mAh
- Operating system: Android
AI pros and cons
Pros
Comprehensive AI feature set
AI features are well optimised for the larger screen
Cons
Expensive for the AI features
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is another of Samsung’s folding phones, but a different beast to the Galaxy Z Flip7. The Fold7 opens like a paperback book, while the Flip7 flips open like an old-school flip phone. That gives the Fold much bigger screens, but also a much higher price tag.
It shares many of the same AI features as the Flip7, and they’re optimised to work on the 8-inch internal screen (which is basically the size of a small tablet). That means Google’s Gemini Live works in full screen mode – making things clearer if you’re sharing a video while having a conversation with the AI assistant.
The Z Fold7 can do much more with AI besides, including real-time translation, Circle to Search, remove unwanted audio elements using Audio Eraser, and turn your doodles into photo-realistic elements to add to your photos using Sketch, or turn them into much more sophisticated artworks using Drawing Assist. But you don’t get much more AI than on the Z Flip7, so if you’re buying it mostly for the AI, it will seem expensive.
Thankfully, the Z Fold7 has lots else to recommend it, including a large battery and 200MP main camera, both of which are much more powerful than its Flip phone sibling’s. If money is no object, this is one of the best AI phones you can buy.

AI pros and cons
Pros
It’s AI on the big screen
On-device AI processing
Comprehensive suite of AI features
Cons
AI suggestions could be more personalised
The Samsung Galaxy S25+ is a real step on from the standard S25. Not only does it have a bigger screen, it also has a much better battery life. And it has the same winning AI features.
These include – but aren’t limited to – scene optimisation and image sharpening, real-time call translation, intelligent summarisation of notes and web pages, Circle to Search, and image editing tools like background removal and generative fill.
As with other Samsung phones in this list, it’s an impressive feature set, and AI manages to be omnipresent but not overbearing. We just wish the AI suggestions would be more personalised. Though with seven years of software updates guaranteed, there’s plenty of time for Samsung to fix this.

AI pros and cons
Pros
Apple Intelligence looks the business
Can connect to ChatGPT
Cons
AI-powered Siri still hasn't arrived
It shouldn't have to rely on ChatGPT
Thankfully, the rumours were wrong. When the idea of an iPhone Air was first mooted, it was widely thought to be the same device as the standard iPhone, but in a slimmer chassis. What we got instead was iPhone Pro levels of performance, plus perhaps the slickest packaging of AI yet.
The processor inside the iPhone Air is the same A19 Pro as in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, giving it oodles of power with which to process AI requests. In fact, Apple built neural accelerators into each GPU core to provide a similar level of computing power to a MacBook Pro.
We can believe it. Because while we’re still waiting for the AI-powered Siri personal assistant to arrive, Apple Intelligence is still very clever. It can screen your calls for you (asking unknown numbers why they’re calling so you can decide whether or not to answer the phone), summarise, proofread, edit and generate text, translate calls in real time, recognise objects, animals and landmarks with Visual Intelligence, and more.
It’s not quite as sophisticated as Google Gemini, and there’s no word on when the more conversational and context-aware Siri will arrive. But you can link it to your ChatGPT account for more functionality.
Still, the iPhone Air is the slimmest iPhone ever, and one of the most sophisticated handsets to offer AI right now. Its single rear camera lags behind the competition, but the handset still provides a great AI experience. Expect it to get better with each software update.

- Front camera: 42MP
- Battery: 5,200mAh
- Operating System: Android
AI pros and cons
Pros
More advanced AI features than the Pixel 10
AI is genuinely useful and never overbearing
Cons
Some AI features need more work
So-so battery life will impact AI use
The Pixel 10 Pro XL is just like the Pixel 10 Pro, but bigger. That means you get the same advanced AI skills as the Pixel 10 Pro, like Veo 3 Fast text-to-video generation, and Google Gemini within your Gmail and Google Docs apps. That’s because you get a free one-year subscription to Google AI Pro with your Pixel 10 Pro or Pro XL, giving you next-gen AI courtesy of Google Gemini Pro.
The bad news? If you want to continue using AI Pro after the free 12-month period, it’ll cost you £18.99 a month. Ouch.
Still, the non-Pro version of Google’s AI still has plenty to like, including Magic Cue, Gemini Live, Pixel Screenshots and Live Translate. It can’t transcribe phone calls (for that you’ll need the pro version), but if you find yourself missing those features, you can always pay for them again.
Aside from AI, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is the finest phone Google has ever made, with a big, beautiful screen and cameras that run a close second to those offered by Samsung and Apple’s finest. This definitely offers some of the leading AI phone tech.

- Operating System: Android
AI pros and cons
Pros
Hugely powerful AI
Superb AI photo editing using S pen stylus
AI for cheaper than the Z Fold7
Cons
Now Brief needs more personalisng
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a powerhouse of a phone, and this power is put to good use with AI. Put together, Samsung and Google’s combined AI abilities seep into almost every aspect of the phone, from texting and calling to taking and editing photos, recording audio and more. But the Ultra has another trick up its AI sleeve: the S Pen stylus.
Not only can this convert your handwriting to typed text and your doodles to fine artwork masterpieces, it can also be used to edit photos using the Ultra’s suite of editing tools. And it even comes into play with such AI staples as Circle to Search – because it feels so much more natural and graceful drawing a circle with a pen than with your finger.
The Now Brief still somewhat overpromises and underdelivers, but as a showcase for how AI should be baked into the very genes of a phone, the S25 Ultra is heard to beat.

AI pros and cons
Pros
AI has never looked better than on iOS 26
Powerful processor whizzes through AI tasks
Fun and diverting AI features
Cons
Glassy look to software can make some AI features confusing
Still no AI-powered Siri
It’s no secret that Apple has been a bit behind the competition when it comes to AI. The firm actually had to pull some of its adverts from the internet after it became obvious that its Siri personal assistant had nowhere near the level of AI-powered skills that they suggested. So how has an iPhone claimed the top spot in our list of best AI phones?
Because still no one integrates features quite like Apple. As a piece of hardware, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is an absolute beauty, especially in that eye-catching orange finish. The iOS 26 software too is a joy to use, with its ‘liquid glass’ interface, though occasionally the see-through elements can get a bit confusing.
The AI is just plain fun, too. Apple tends to take itself quite seriously, but it’s one of the few companies that sees the fun potential of AI. Image Playground is just that, letting you create all sorts of images quickly and effortlessly. And its Genmoji cartoonish avatars are always playful.
True, we are still waiting for the true AI-powered Siri to arrive. But Apple has a history of being late to the party, but then coming to utterly dominate it once it’s arrived. As a piece of hardware, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is hard to fault, with a lovely screen and the best cameras of any phone around. From an AI perspective, only a fool would write Apple off so early…
