Richard Neudegg, Uswitch.com director of regulation, comments: “Warm Home Discount payments can be a lifeline for vulnerable customers, so it’s disappointing that 4,000 households didn’t get the discount on time due to supplier error.

“It’s right energy companies are held accountable when things go wrong and they take steps to put it right, which is happening in this case.

“If you think you have been impacted by this error, you don’t need to do anything - the supplier will contact you.

“Utilita will be making compensation payments totalling £247,000 to affected customers, who will receive further payments of £150 each, in addition to compensation that has already been paid.

“While cash towards their winter bills helps vulnerable customers when they need it most, the focus over the long term must be bringing down the cost of energy for households.

“Anyone struggling to pay their bills should contact their supplier, who can point them towards the help they need.”
