Richard Neudegg, director of regulation at Uswitch.com: “Consumers are essential to the energy transition, so we welcome that the Clean Flexibility Roadmap places households at the heart of the system.

“Being able to match when we use electricity to when domestic clean power is available is a key part of making the country less reliant on global gas and bringing down energy prices. But this requires services that support and reward consumers being flexible.

“Flexible energy tariffs have the potential to bring bills down, but right now, only 2.3% of households are on one of these deals*. Households will need these tariffs to make sense for them financially, and suppliers need to crack on with the technology and systems changes needed for them to scale.

“Helping households see their savings in real time is also crucial to them feeling the benefits. This is one of the reasons Uswitch has launched a free service, Utrack, which unlocks smart meter data to help you reduce your energy bill and even earn money back when you shift your energy usage.

“We look forward to seeing the Government work with industry to create an energy retail market that drives better consumer outcomes.”
