Ernest Doku, Uswitch mobiles expert, comments on Revolut’s new mobile roaming plans:

“Revolut has shown its ambition to shake things up with its entry into the mobile market, which is a strong sign of how eSIMs are lowering the barrier to competition in the sector.

“They’ve now set their sights on bringing the same ease and simplicity to mobile roaming as they have for digital banking.

“Their plans will offer unlimited texts, calls and domestic data, plus 20GB EU and US data roaming - all without a fixed contract commitment.

“Launching with an introductory price of £12.50 per month, customers can also pay for their plan using RevPoints, Revolut’s loyalty scheme, which rewards customers with points on purchases, which could help make this a more compelling - and affordable - option for consumers.

“There are other SIM only providers with comparable offerings at a similar price point.

“iD Mobile offers unlimited data starting from £15 a month (with 30GB of free roaming), while Lebara offers unlimited data at £9.98 for the first three months.

“iD Mobile and Lebara both offer 30GB roaming across Europe – however, Revolut includes a 20GB roaming allowance across both Europe and the US. Comparatively, Three Mobile, which offers 12GB of roaming across both Europe and the US, stands at £31.50 per month.

“While it remains to be seen how long Revolut’s introductory pricing will last, it could be worth considering joining the waitlist, especially if you’ll make use of the Europe and US roaming allowances.”
