Ernest Doku, Uswitch mobiles expert, comments on the anticipated UK rollout of Apple Intelligence this week:

“Following the announcement of Apple Intelligence for the new iPhone 16 in September, Apple’s new AI features are now expected to be rolled out in the UK this week.

“Our data shows that demand for the iPhone 16 has steadily increased in the lead-up to the anticipated rollout. Some have already experienced early access to the AI features by changing their phone’s language settings to US English.

“The upcoming update includes features such as an improved virtual assistant in Siri with ChatGPT integration and AI custom image-generating tools such as Genmoji.

“To access all these features on your device, you need to be running iOS 18.2. Once available, open Settings, go to the Apple Intelligence & Siri menu and tap the toggle to activate, although this may take some time to take effect.

“Apple Intelligence is exclusive to the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as any iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or later, which means some users may be priced out of the experience if they aren’t able to upgrade.

“Consumers could consider other deals and models with AI features front-and-centre, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 range, the OnePlus 12, or Google’s Pixel 9 series, whose Tensor AI chip improves everything from camera capabilities to conversational speech.

“This is just the beginning of what we can expect to see from phones in the future. The battle of the AI features is likely to get more intense as competitors battle on how to differentiate, as well as offer consumers the most helpful and innovative tools.”
