Uswitch mobiles expert, Simrat Sharma comments: “Samsung’s July Galaxy Unpacked event saw the launch of seven new devices, including two new iterations of its folding handsets - the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6.

“These devices show how far the smartphone market has come, with the one-size fits all approach being steadily replaced by more individual capabilities that phones such as these foldables provide, offering a larger display for higher-spec productivity tasks.

“Following Samsung’s launch of Galaxy AI earlier this year, both new handsets have been engineered specifically to maximise AI capabilities.

“Key examples include Galaxy AI’s Interpreter feature, which uses both screens to show translation for a real-time conversation and ‘Sketch to Image’ which generates image options simply from a sketch.

“AI-enabled phones are clearly changing the market and Samsung’s new offering shows how the foldable format can be combined with AI features to transform productivity tasks such as taking notes, organising travel and creating images hassle-free.

“On top of other updates, such as increased portability, it’s great to see Samsung upgrade its Galaxy Z range to create what it says will be its most durable folding phones yet - a concern some have when it comes to foldable handsets.

“The new devices will offer the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset that the latest foldable devices such as the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro offer, but with a more recognisable household name.

“Starting at £1,799 for the Z Fold6 and £1,049 for the Z Flip6, these are premium handsets with price points to match and are geared towards power users who might want to bundle a tablet and smartphone into one, rather than your everyday smartphone user.

“Samsung’s launches are another example of how generative AI continues to take over the market. It will be interesting to see how devices evolve from the smartphones we know and become even more capable in the future.”
