Richard Neudegg, director of regulation at Uswitch.com, said: “Millions of vulnerable households are facing the most challenging winter in years.
“It is clearly very concerning that all suppliers need to improve their practices, with evidence that customers of some were missing out on free gas safety checks and some were not being offered the support they were due.
“Those pushed onto prepayment meters are also more at risk of self-disconnecting when they can’t afford to top up.
“Even with the Government’s help, those who need the most help are still at risk of falling through the cracks. Suppliers need to work harder to identify and support their most vulnerable customers.
“If you are worried you aren’t getting the support you are entitled to, or your energy account is going into debt, speak to your provider as soon as possible.”
