Uswitch comments on BEIS electricity market review
Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com, said: “This potential shake-up of electricity wholesale pricing is a step in the right direction for the energy market, which is currently not delivering for consumers.
“Unlinking electricity costs from wholesale gas prices in the future could be a sensible move to reduce the chances of the aggressive price shocks that customers are currently experiencing.
“Many of these measures will take a long time to implement, so this is not a magic pill that will solve issues in time for the winter.
“It is, however, a much-needed part of a longer-term solution for the energy market, that could let consumers enjoy the low prices for electricity generated by renewables.”
