Uswitch has issued the below comment following Ofcom’s annual Pricing Trends report, looking into what people pay for their broadband and phone services.

Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Overall, it is positive to see that broadband and phone prices have fallen, with customers getting better value for money for superfast and ultrafast broadband.

“There are some great deals out there for consumers who do a quick comparison online, including faster broadband services or more data from mobile contracts.

“It is disappointing to see that those on lower incomes who are struggling to pay are not getting the support they need from providers.

“Moves by some providers to offer cheaper bundles for those on Universal Credit are a welcome step towards making an essential service like broadband affordable for all.

“While it would be welcome to get more providers offering these tariffs, there also needs to be a greater effort to get the word out to those out of work and struggling to make a real difference.

“If you are struggling to pay your bills, speak to your provider as soon as possible as they may be able to help you.”
