Uswitch issued the below comment following research from Ofgem, showing one in four consumers plan to buy an electric car in the next five years.
Justina Miltienyte, policy expert at Uswitch.com, said: “This survey is further proof of the public’s desire to adopt new technologies that will help to lower carbon emissions, such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) - but it also highlights some of the obstacles that still exist.
“Ofgem’s pledge to pour millions of pounds into the electrification of vehicles, including installation of more charging points, is both timely and welcome, but more work remains to be done to convince all customers that adopting environmentally friendly technologies, such as electric cars, is a welcome and cost efficient change.
“With 18 million motorists looking to switch to electric cars by 2030, making the UK’s energy system more flexible will be an essential step towards it being easier for customers to charge EVs at the time that is cheapest and most convenient for them[1].”
