Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com, said: “It’s great to see the big four mobile networks come together with the government in a bid to improve rural notspots.
“Just this week Uswitch revealed how 40% of residents in rural areas regularly struggle with their mobile reception and are almost 50% more likely to suffer dropped calls than those in suburban areas.
“Bringing 4G coverage to 95% of the country would make a massive difference to millions of people.
“The sharing of masts by providers could greatly improve the coverage for residents in rural areas, while giving them a wider choice of networks and tariff options.
“If you’re having problems getting a good signal through your mobile reception, your best bet could be making calls over Wi-Fi instead. It’s easy to do, but you’ll need to make sure it’s supported by your mobile provider.
“However, before signing up to a new network check the provider’s coverage maps. It takes only five minutes and could help you find which mobile phone company has the best signal in your area.”
