Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com, comments:
“The scale and ambition of Ofgem’s plans will give a welcome boost to the mission to make the UK’s grid greener.
“Consumers will see financial benefit from the £40 billion spending package too, with domestic bills in line to be reduced by an average of £10 a year under these rules, although this is down from the £20 originally proposed.
“The amount of return network companies have been able to make in recent years has been a matter of significant controversy. The regulator has to balance how much network companies can make with the need to allow them to invest in things that will make our energy network greener.
“It’s also positive to see that help for vulnerable people will be increased by this proposal, as this assistance is going to be invaluable for those who need extra support the most.”
