Following today's announcement from Ofcom that it has opened an investigation into BT’s compliance with its obligations as a broadband universal service provider, Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com, says:
“The Universal Service Obligation remains an important mechanism for Ofcom in the fight to alleviate Britain’s ‘digital divide’, ensuring that those struggling in rural areas have a chance to access a workable broadband connection.
“At a time when consumers are increasingly reliant on their broadband whether it’s for running an online business or video-calling loved ones, it’s not unreasonable for people to expect a decent connection and shouldn’t have to put up with either slow or unreliable speeds.”
