Nick Baker, streaming expert at Uswitch, says: “Almost half of UK households are now watching Netflix[1], so perhaps it was just a matter of time before its 30-day free trial came to an end.

“Replacing the one-month free trial with a 50% discount for the first two months prevents people signing up, binge-watching a few shows and then cancelling without paying a penny.

“We assume Netflix hopes that over the course of those two months, customers will become used to watching unlimited films and shows from its enormous catalogue and are less likely to cancel their subscription.

“If you decide to sign up for the new offer, make a note of when your discounted period comes to an end so you can cancel without being charged more if you decide the steaming service isn’t for you.”
