Ru Bhikha, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Expectations were low ahead of the launch of the iPhone 11, with leaks suggesting few exciting innovations. But what Apple revealed will give fans something to salivate about.
“Apple showed off three versions of the iPhone 11, including the more affordable basic model plus the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. At $699, the base model iPhone 11 looks like excellent value.
“The camera is one area where Apple will no doubt impress their loyal customer base, with features such as low-light and wide angle added to compete with their Android counterparts. The iPhone 11 offers two lenses: wide and ultra-wide. The ultra-wide lens offers a 120 degree view, allowing for epic panoramic shots and for taking snaps in restricted, close-up situations. The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have an additional telephoto lens, which gives users the power of a 4x optical zoom.
“Apple was happy to brag about having the ‘highest quality video in a smartphone ever’, with fans given the ability to shoot 60 frames per second in 4K resolution. One neat addition to the front-facing camera is the ability to take video selfies in slow-motion, or ‘slofies’ as Apple wants us to call them.
“We keep seeing that consumers aren’t willing to upgrade their smartphone unless there’s a good reason to, which means the iPhone 11’s lack of new features could prove problematic. The next big thing for smartphones is 5G, which could be more bad news for Apple, as the iPhone 11 is not expected to offer this fifth-generation technology.
“Apple Arcade was an exciting introduction from the launch. Offering iPhone and iPad games as a subscription service makes a lot of sense for families, and gets around the awkward in-game purchases that concern many parents. At $4.99 a month for a family subscription, Apple Arcade offers excellent value for money, although we await to see the quality of the more than 100 games that Apple is promising at launch.
“Apple TV+ fired the first shots in its battle against the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ by revealing that a monthly subscription costs $4.99. The price undercuts the $7 cost of Disney+, the $13 cost of the standard US Netflix package, and $12.99 monthly price of Amazon Prime.
“Programmes like The Morning Show starring Steve Carrell, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, plus See with Jason Momoa show that Apple is serious about winning a large chunk of the streaming market.”
