Christine Torlay, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, says: “The rules preventing customers from harm through mid-contract price rises are well established – so EE could have done more to inform those affected of their rights.
“Ofcom’s timely intervention highlighted the importance of ensuring consumers are well informed, effectively placing the power back into the hands of these EE customers.
“While those affected were likely to balk at the price hikes to out-of-bundle services that were announced in June, any unhappy EE customers have effectively been handed a ‘get out of jail free’ card that they can choose to use within 30 days of being notified.
“The good news for customers that don’t wish to accept these changes is that the best deals out there are generally available to new customers.”
