Commenting on the announcement that Shell has agreed to buy First Utility, Emma Bush, energy expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Shell’s acquisition of First Utility opens up some interesting possibilities, such as whether it could lead to changes in the products they offer or alternative energy tariffs. But as with any deal involving energy suppliers, the most important factors for the majority of First Utility’s 850,000 customers will remain pricing and customer service.

“We’ll have to wait and see whether this move will further shake up what is already a very competitive market – with 60 suppliers to choose from and savings of up to £491 on offer, energy consumers have plenty of choice so they should always run a comparison to check whether they could switch to a better deal for them.”
