Commenting on BT’s decision to cut the cost of bills for landline only customers, Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at Uswitch.com, says: “For BT’s up to one million landline only customers, this £7 monthly cut in their bills will be welcome.
“BT’s voluntary agreement to cut bills for these customers at the upper end of Ofcom’s proposal is especially laudable in light of the fact landline-only services are usually taken by more vulnerable – particularly elderly – customers.
“From April next year, when these cuts kick in, around 800,000 of BT’s landline-only users will benefit from annual savings of £84.
“This group of customers who don’t have broadband have lost out in recent years as the shift in competition in fixed telecoms has overlooked voice-only services in favour of broadband.
“For many of these customers the landline is seen as a lifeline, so this is a welcome move.”
