“The news of an additional £440 million investment in superfast broadband for rural parts of the UK is most welcome – not least for those still suffering the daily grind of trying to navigating today’s online, connected-world with cripplingly slow broadband in their own home.
“Today’s news should help keep the Government’s plan on track to ensure 95% of UK premises have access to superfast broadband by the end of 2017, increasing to 97% by 2020. The test, however, will be in how the Government ensures those people who fall into that final 3% of the UK are supported – after all, today’s announcement will be little comfort to those who will still have to wait until 2020 or beyond for any kind of improvement. Whilst this is a welcome boost, we need to ensure we have a robust plan to keep the roll-out on track and ensure the final 3% are not left behind.”
