Households on a range of fixed energy deals coming to an end in June risk a price hike of up to £173 a year, according to Uswitch.com, the independent price comparison and switching service.

Several deals expire on 30th June, meaning that some customers could be automatically rolled over to their supplier’s standard plan – costing an average of £115 more. By taking action now to switch to a new tariff, households can continue saving on their energy bills.

Claire Osborne, energy expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Fixed deals tend to be highly competitive, give consumers certainty about what they pay and protect against any unexpected price hikes. But, if they don’t take action now, customers on deals ending this month could get an unwelcome shock when they open their next energy bill.

“These consumers still have time to switch to a new tariff. It’s also useful to know that any early exit fees on these plans no longer apply, so there’s every reason to shop around, switch and avoid being stung.”
