Commenting on today’s trading statement from Centrica, the owner of British Gas, Thomas Lyon, energy expert at Uswitch.com, said: “Although British Gas is the only big six supplier to reduce gas prices twice this year, the fact remains that the combined cuts have lowered average dual fuel bills by a mere 6%.
“Given the fact that wholesale prices are at a five year low, consumers should be seeing double-digit percentage cuts to their bills. In light of today’s trading statement, British Gas should again lead by example and make a further 5% cut to both standard gas and electricity tariffs.
“In the meantime, there is £288 a year difference between British Gas’ standard tariff and the cheapest deal on the market, so many of its customers would be better off by switching.”
