Uswitch.com – the independent price comparison and switching service – has launched an updated version of its ‘Compare, Switch, Save’ iPhone app to coincide with the introduction of QR (Quick Response) codes on energy bills from this month.
The Government announced plans in 2014 to introduce the codes on bills to help energy consumers get an instant cross-market comparison. Each code contains information about the customer’s current tariff, energy consumption, postcode and other information needed to search the market for the best deals.
New Uswitch.com data recently revealed that the average annual saving made by consumers switching energy tariffs has soared by almost a third to £292 a year – more than at any point since 2010. The updated app will help consumers to effortlessly find cheaper deals, without the need to navigate overcomplicated bills.
Key features:
Available for iPhone
Instant QR code scanning functionality simplifies switching process by removing need to manually enter tariff details
Takes seconds to scan an energy bill to show the cheapest energy deals available
Step-by-step guide through the switching process
Switch directly through the app and track progress of the switch
Automatic notifications when fixed deal ends, or if a cheaper energy plan is available.
Chief Technology Officer for Uswitch.com, Michael Jones, says: “We know that overcomplicated bills are one of the biggest barriers to switching. Our latest version of the app means that customers can now review the entire market in seconds, using QR codes which are appearing on bills from this month. We hope that introducing the new functionality will encourage even more people to switch and save.”
Lord Bourne, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales; Energy and Climate Change, says:“The introduction of QR codes to bills will allow bill payers to compare energy deals more accurately and switch suppliers at the touch of a phone or tablet; it is great to see comparison sites like Uswitch embrace it.
“We will continue to work closely with energy suppliers and comparison websites to ensure the services they provide meet the needs of British bill payers, so they can get the best price that works for them.”
