Commenting on the news that youth unemployment remains high in the latest ONS Labour Market figures, Rod Jones, insurance expert at Uswitch.com, says: “While growing employment figures should be welcomed, the agonisingly slow climb of youth employment must not be ignored – young people are still around three times more likely to be jobless.
“Soaring motoring costs are further compounding this problem, becoming the latest thorn in the side of young jobseekers. In fact, over half of young people have been forced to rule out applying for a job that required a car to get to the workplace – despite having a full licence.
“Although many driving costs are unavoidable, there are measures young drivers can take to make getting on the road more affordable. By fitting a black box or buying their car and insurance together they may be able to reduce their premium. It is important that young people assess all their options to make sure they are on their best possible deal before committing.”
