Commenting on Ofcom’s latest research, which reveals mobile and internet services are now considered ‘essential’ by consumers, Ernest Doku**, tech expert at Uswitch.com says:** “We’ve watched broadband become the fourth household utility and, given that most of us are now within arm’s reach of a mobile phone at all times, we can safely say mobiles are now an essential part of day to day life too.
“It might seem rather obvious to state that telecoms services are essential, but it’s an important distinction to make because there is now an expectation and a responsibility to deliver these services to vulnerable people.
“Technology has asserted its rightful place in our lives, but it needs to be accessible to all. We must ensure everyone can afford entry-level mobile and broadband deals.
“With around one in eight saying that telecoms services are unaffordable, there is plenty of work to be done.”
