Commenting on Ofcom’s event, Consumers and Citizens in the Communications Sector, and the watchdog’s proposed changes to the switching process, Marie-Louise Abretti, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Remove barriers to switching and you help save people money. It really is that simple – and Ofcom is right to take the bull by the horns.

“Any measure that empowers consumers and makes the process of changing providers faster and simpler has knock-on benefits for household budgets.

“Britain has a fiercely competitive market to keep prices as low as possible, but not all consumers are making the most of it. Our research shows that more than two thirds (67%) of consumers haven’t switched broadband providers in the past three years.

“Almost a quarter (23%) of British bill-payers are concerned that Ofcom’s plans to make switching simpler will take too long to implement. However, the early signs are positive overall – four in ten (40%) say that the changes, if they come into force, would make them more likely to switch.”
